A friend of mine (and future TBE guest-blogger) recently did a podcast on his daily habits and having been asked more than a few times for my own routine, I’ve committed it to paper for you, my lovely blog readers. This is a fairly usual day for me, but of course each one differs.
I woke up quite early, around 7am, and made a hot water with lemon to drink straight away. This is habit and I’ve found it helps me digest my food for the rest of the day. Then around 8:30am I had a piece of organic toast with peanut butter and honey to fuel me for my gym session.
On days when I work out I will very often have 2 breakfasts so after the gym I made a green smoothie and porridge with raisins, cinnamon and organic almond milk. For lunch I had homemade minestrone soup and an apple. In the afternoon I always have a hot drink, usually black tea with honey or a hazelnut milk latte. I also had a date stuffed with peanut butter. For dinner I had salad with organic falafels and homemade homefries. I pretty much try and keep my Monday-Friday diet 100% vegan if I can.
Exercise-wise I tend to do weights-based workouts on a Monday and Tuesday, and a sprint or endurance workout too. Every Wednesday I go to a BodyCon class, which is a circuits session that combines body and added weight moves. Thursday is usually my rest day. I go on at least one run at the weekend and will usually do another circuits session too.
So there you have it – my food and exercise habits laid bare. For me it’s important to keep myself well rested and well-fed as I need all my energy for my clients, not just physically but emotionally too. The focus is simply on good, wholesome food and exercise that keeps me performing at my best, which means I can keep you performing at your best too. I don’t count calories in any way – either burned at the gym or ingested – and I don’t weight myself – I just go by how I look and feel and would encourage you to do the same.
Cheat Days – this blog wouldn’t feel complete without letting you know what my cheat days/meals involve. I have a HUGE sweet tooth so various types of chocolate and biscuits are always involved. Anything I can put butter on (BAGELS) and hot cheese things like toasties and pizzas and cheeseburgers are good. I LOVE cereal with full-fat milk to snack on and if I can find a flavour I like, ice-cream gets a look in too. I went to Daylesford Organic yesterday and got some of their peanut butter cups which I’m looking forward to enjoying this weekend. YUM!
